Ohio's new public awareness campaign, "A World Without Anti-Biotic Resistance," will be rolled out to local health departments in the coming weeks, and will run for a few months.
The campaign will focus on educating seniors about the dangers of antibiotic-resistant germs, and will include a phone-in program and two-minute video on the dangers of resistance. In addition, a new mobile app will be released to support the campaign.
"This is about helping consumers become better informed about the risks of these drugs," said Dr. Brian Hagan, director of the health department's Office Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. "If seniors do take them, they're putting their own health and the of their families in jeopardy."
The initiative is part of national effort to combat antibiotic resistance, which threatens to wipe out many patients that rely on antibiotics to treat infections. Many children and patients who are frail elderly also at increased risk.
A World Without Anti-Biotic Resistance
The campaign aims to reach nearly 16 million Americans and educate the public on dangers and consequences of antibiotic overuse.
